Smoothies For Kids in Austin

By Kara Reynolds – August 8, 2022

Does the brutally hot Austin summer have you desperately searching for a cool and satisfying, yet healthy, treat for your kids? Smoothies are a great way to beat the heat and get some fruits, vegetables and healthy protein into your children, especially if they’re usually picky eaters. The bright colors and fun flavor names are hard to turn down.

Luckily, we have so many great local spots to find fresh smoothies and juices. Each of these options is sure to satisfy any sweet tooth. However, if you don’t want to go out in the hot sun to grab one, or if your kids have allergies, you might prefer to make one of the delicious recipes at the bottom of this list.

1. JuiceLand

JuiceLand has 27 locations spread throughout Austin, and they’re popular for a good reason. Their dedication to quality, plant-based ingredients brought them to the top of our list. Kids will love popular flavors like Berry Godmother, Morning Sunshine and Blue Mint Chip. You can rest assured knowing your kids’ tasty treat is also packed with nutrition.

2. Nekter Juice Bar

Nekter got its start in crafting juices, but they’ve created a well-rounded menu of smoothies and smoothie bowls as well. The base of each one is pure coconut water or fresh cashew milk made on-site. Their PB&J flavor is a twist on the classic kid’s treat and well worth a taste. If your kids don’t find anything on the menu they want, you have the option of creating your own dreamy concoction.

3. Blenders and Bowls

Owned by best friends Erin and Kara, Blenders and Bowls takes acai to the next level, delivering delicious smoothies and bowls. They’ve expanded their product line by selling in stores across the country, but you can still get their fresh treats in one of three locations in Austin. Try the Beach House or Power Potion – you won’t be sorry!

4. Smoothie King

While Smoothie King may not have gotten its start in Austin, its popularity here has spread quickly to seven other locations. They offer a large selection of smoothies aimed at helping their customers reach their goals – like more energy, faster muscle recovery, weight management and general wellness. In addition, they have some simple, tasty treats if that’s all you’re looking for and a reduced menu of options just for kids, like Apple Kiwi Bunga and Choc-A-Laka.

5. Soup Peddler Real Food and Juice Bar

An Austin classic, the Soup Peddler offers much more than soup. A full menu of juices and smoothies, like Peach Yogurt Honey and Magic Carpet Ride, is sure to cool your kids off. Stop by just for a sweet and healthy treat, or add one to your choice of soup, salad or sandwich.

6. Make Your Own

Do none of these options sound quite right? Why not try making your own smoothies in the comfort of your home? Whipping them up yourself allows you to control the ingredients, which can be perfect for picky eaters or kids with allergies.

    • Green Apple Pecan: Sneak in some greens with this tasty recipe that gets its name from the mouth-watering green apple. Maple syrup makes it naturally sweet, and the real star of the show – the homemade pecan milk – gives this great depth of flavor. The whole family is sure to enjoy this very unique smoothie. • Peanut Butter Banana: This smoothie has only five ingredients and is easy to whip up with what you probably already have on hand. You’ll need ice, milk, banana, peanut butter and honey. For lactose-intolerant kiddos, try swapping the dairy for a non-dairy alternative like almond or coconut milk. Get the Recipe: All Recipes
  • Orange Creamsicle: What kid doesn’t love an orange creamsicle when it gets hot outside? Cut out the unnecessary sugar by blending a batch of this smoothie flavor. This is another five-ingredient stunner featuring mandarin oranges and pineapple with a base of soy milk and yogurt. Get the Recipe: The Spruce Eats
  • Chocolate Strawberry: Nut butter and cocoa powder give this smoothie a rich taste. Add in the strawberries, bananas and some honey for extra sweetness and you have every child’s dream. If you want to make these more filling and get some healthy whole grains, boost the recipe with old-fashioned oats. Get the Recipe: A Couple Cooks
