With school just around the corner, it’s time to start looking into some after-school activities to keep your kids healthy and active. Whether you’re looking for a fun, new adventure for your kid, or if you need something to keep them busy while you’re at work, these five after-school programs are sure to meet your needs.

Austin Bouldering Project

Austin Bouldering Project, one of Austin’s few rock climbing gyms, offers various weekly after-school programs for kids to stay active throughout the year. If your kid is new to climbing or is looking for something less competitive, ABP offers different after-school programs for each age group. Try the Mini Mountaineers for those ages 4 to 6, the Dyno-saurs for ages 7 to 9, Bombers for ages 10 to 12 and Crushers for ages 13 to 17. On the other hand, if your kid is looking for something more competitive, ABP’s Springdale location also offers a youth climbing team designed to foster personal growth amongst climbers ages 8 to 18 years old. Practices are held three times per week, with tryouts once a year.

YMCA of Austin

YMCA locations around Austin offer after-school programs to encourage children to have positive social experiences. Not only do they offer kids the chance to practice physical activity, but each after-school program also aims to foster creativity, critical thinking and social-emotional learning. Offered to children pre-K through fifth grade, this after-school camp is sure to keep your kid active and feeling good. Registration for the 2022-2023 academic year is now open, so be sure to secure your spot at the company that’s been serving Austin for over 50 years!

Austin Youth Fitness

Austin Youth Fitness encourages active lifestyles for kids and has a goal to teach kids to love running, biking and yoga. Owned by Larry and Emily Chauvin, they hope to share their love of fitness with young kids. Depending on where you live, you can find different clubs all around the city. Offered to kids pre-K through middle-school-aged, these after-school programs are perfect for kids who are looking to learn the proper technique to be life-long athletes. All skill levels are welcome and encouraged to join.

The Little Gym

The Little Gym of South Austin offers various different gymnastics classes to kids. Their goal is to give kids the opportunity to try new things while having a positive learning environment. This is the perfect spot for kids to go after school because not only do the camps promote active lifestyles, but they also promote cooperation, leadership and creativity. Classes of varying skill levels are offered every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for kids ages 6 to 12 years old.

Train 4 The Game

Train 4 The Game, located off of Bee Cave Road in Westlake, is a sports program that helps students excel in their athletic careers. Classes are offered to kids from elementary through high school and are focused on building strength, conditioning the body and performing the correct techniques when working out. Schedule a private lesson to master a technique or have your kid join a group class to socialize with others. These sessions are guided by trained professionals that will ensure your kid is having fun but also being safe when working out.
