At Austin Fit, we strive to know all the athletes in our community. We chatted with standout athletes and students, Jaelene Etkie and Trey Johnson, at Texas School for the Deaf about what playing sports means to them.


Jaelene Etkie, 18

Which sports do you play?
Volleyball, Basketball, Softball

Favorite sport?
Basketball

Future plans?
Attend Gallaudet University and try out for the women’s basketball team. 

What has playing sports taught you?
“It’s taught me commitment and dedication. You get what you earn.”

Favorite sports memory at TSD?
“Last year when we went to the final four in basketball and beat two teams we had never beaten before.”

 

Trey Johnson, 14

Which sports do you play?
Basketball, Football, Track and Field

Favorite sport?
Basketball

What do you like to do outside of school and sports?
Camping, Swimming, and Riding Bikes

What have you learned from playing sports?
“I learned teamwork. You have to learn how to work together with people from different backgrounds.”

Favorite sports memory at TSD?
“In seventh grade when my football team went undefeated.”
