MSW Lounge’s Nurse Doza promotes Slenderella®, a supplement aimed to support energy and weight loss. It contains similar ingredients that many other over-the-counter products use to help with liver detox, all in one product. There are many questions around this local brand and MSW Lounge, which claims to be Austin’s home of the free B12 shot. Nurse Doza shares insight into Slenderella®, B12 and how they use it at MSW Lounge to improve wellness.
What is Slenderella® and why might I want it?
A: Slenderella® is a mix of B12 (methylcobalamin) and amino acids (the building blocks of protein) that aids in liver detoxification, weight loss support and gives you a sometimes much-needed boost in energy.
When fat cells become inflamed and swollen because the liver becomes more inefficient, you need help to flush out chemicals and toxins that cause weight gain. A healthy diet and regular exercise is the ticket— along with those building blocks of protein.
Slenderella® comes in IM shots, IV drips, a supplement line and a whole lifestyle brand that focuses on supporting the liver to detox like it should*.
*Some conditions require medical clearance before beginning such a regime.
Q: What is the importance of your liver in relation to your overall health?
A: The liver is the body’s main detox organ. Everything comes down to keeping it healthy. A healthy liver can help reset a ton of other possible health concerns. It’s the only organ in the body that is able to regenerate itself. Take care of your liver and let it take care of you.
Q: B12 is a popular vitamin, but what is it?
A: Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin, meaning it binds with water to be used and carried in the body. It can’t be stored in the body, so it needs to be taken in on a daily basis coming from our diet and supplements in order to reap their benefits and avoid deficiencies.
Vitamin B12 is essential for cell function and energy production. There’s a cycle that happens in our cells called methylation, which is crucial to how our bodies produce energy.
One of the key nutrients in that cycle is vitamin B12. The problem with most supplements, though, is that they use a form of B12 that many people can’t properly absorb. Most oral supplements come in the form of cyanocobalamin.
At MSW Lounge and in Slenderella® products we use methylcobalamin B12, which is more biologically active than cyanocobalamin when given in injectable form and is retained in the body slightly better.
Q: What are the benefits of taking a B12 supplement such as Slenderella®?
A: As we continue to understand the need for B12 in our bodies, it should no longer be viewed as a vitamin for those with a specific form of anemia only. B12 deficiency anemia is a condition in which your body doesn’t have enough healthy red blood cells, due to a lack of vitamin B12. It’s the red blood cells that carry oxygen to all the parts of the body so B12 is important to help make healthy red blood cells which, if you don’t have enough, can lead to lead chronic fatigue.
If you’re taking it for general health, vitamin B12 will likely increase your daily energy (especially with the surge about an hour after taking the vitamin). You could also experience improved sleep, thanks to the extra energy you spend being productive during the work-day. Everyone responds differently but do you know your response?
Improved digestion is common, as well as a generally better mood. One of the deficiency symptoms of vitamin B12 is depression, which is caused by B12’s role in the creation of serotonin, AKA the “happy hormone.” See if increasing B12 intake results in a generally better mood for you.
Q: Why do you give your vitamins as shots instead of pills?
A: Fear of needles is common, and many people stop when we first tell them we prefer to give vitamin B12 as a shot or IV.
But here’s the thing, many people today have poor gut health due to chronic inflammation. And that means that even if you take pills with the best form of vitamin B12 in them, you might not get the benefits of supplementation at all. Even in a perfectly healthy digestive system, people only absorb about 30-40 percent of the things they eat. So, by skipping the digestive tract and going directly into the muscle or blood, you get a much higher percent absorption from shots and Ivs*. Our shots and IVs bypass the gut and bring the vitamin straight to your blood, where the body can use it as needed.
*Some conditions require other treatments or can prevent absorption. Check with your medical care provider in these cases.
Slenderella® supplements aim to be bioavailable versions of each substance listed wherever possible and people report feeling their effects so much more compared to supplements taken orally that you still have to digest. Our mission is to get you the vitamins you need in the best way they should be taken. These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA and are not a substitute for medical treatment.
