AUSTIN—The return of the 48th annual Statesman Cap10K, the city’s oldest road race, will bring nearly 20,000 runners into the Texas state Capitol on April 6 for a trek over 10,000 meters.

Few races in the state offer history and scenic beauty like the Cap10K, and that’s a major reason why it has become a signature event and rite of passage for runners in Central Texas. In 2024, it was one of the biggest 10Ks in the United States, with a total of 16,170 finishers.

The 2025 installment could play witness to one of the biggest fields of recent years.

The largest turnout in the race’s history took place in 1987 when a total of 28,341 runners lined the streets in Austin–despite 33 degree temperatures. In 1978, just over 5,500 runners ran the course for the first time.

A year ago, 32-year-old Park Stinson won the men’s elite race in 30 minutes and 25 seconds, while 37-year-old Allie Kieffer captured the women’s field in 34:37. This year’s elite fields will feature some incredible talent, including a return to the race for Kieffer.

Corporations, non-profits, military personnel and first responders join the race annually, while local elementary, middle and high schools are also regulars. Below are some facts and figures heading into this year’s event.
