Crux Climbing Center Announces Phased Reopening Plans in Compliance With City of Austin

By AFM Team – May 18, 2020

Crux Climbing Center (Crux) will reopen its South Congress location to members only starting Monday, May 25, according to a press release sent out on Monday.

The gym plans to follow a multi-phase reopening strategy, beginning with members only and operating at less than 10 percent the gym’s capacity. Members can sign up for two-hour sessions throughout the day and will be required to follow various safety protocols, including wearing masks and using liquid chalk. Yoga and fitness classes will resume June 1 with six-person limits.

“There’s nothing we miss more than our Crux community,” said Grace Nicholas, co-owner, CMO and COO at Crux. “However, the safety of our employees and our members is still paramount. We can’t wait to welcome members back to climb, but we’re reopening slowly and methodically to ensure we can carefully monitor activity and respond swiftly if need be. I’m so grateful for our amazing community of climbers and supporters and cannot wait to be together again!”

The second re-opening phase is slated to begin June 8 and will open to members, their guests and punch pass holders. The gym will open to about 12 percent capacity and follow the same scheduling and safety protocol as phase one.
