Pun intended. But what happens when neck pain or tight shoulders limit your workout? It’s one of the most common complaints we hear. Common, yes, but let’s be clear: common isn’t normal. Spoiler alert, the pillow isn’t the problem.
Many rely on quick fixes like stretching, foam rolling, or massage guns. They might help for 20 minutes but never address the deeper issue. Jane’s story highlights how exploring the root cause leads to lasting transformation.
Meet Jane (name changed), a 35-year-old Austinite who came to us after two decades of neck and shoulder tension. She chalked it up to aging, especially since her friends in tech had similar complaints. It felt normal. But normal doesn’t mean healthy.
Her symptoms extended beyond tight shoulders. Jane woke up tired, even after eight hours of sleep. Her sleep was “up and down,” and her anxiety disrupted her social life. Sweaty palms, a racing heart, and feeling “imbalanced” were all new to her.
She turned to temporary fixes like Advil, melatonin, or CBD gummies. They provided momentary relief but didn’t last. The bigger story? Two accidents, a car crash 20 years ago and a motorcycle accident 15 years ago. Both left her sore, but medical imaging said she was fine. Over time, the stiffness and tightness began to snowball.
At Lifespring Chiropractic, we specialize in connecting the dots. Using our INSiGHT scans, we measured Jane’s nervous system – the body’s master control center that directs muscles, organs, and glands.
The scans revealed a significant imbalance in her nervous system as shown below in the diagram. In particular, the upper neck nerves were showing signs of dysfunction, a condition called dysautonomia. This disruption impacts the vagus nerve, explaining her anxiety, poor sleep, and slumping energy. But her accidents also overstretched the ligaments in her neck, creating instability. Traditional cracking chiropractic techniques could have worsened her condition, which is why Jane said, “This approach is completely different. It doesn’t just feel better, it stays better.”

Deeper healing, beyond short term pain relief requires strategy. We used our TriChord Method™, addressing Jane’s nervous system, extremities, and ligament stability. Her plan combined gentle nervous system focused chiropractic adjustments, a temporary change in her exercise plan that was setting her back, and practical sleep changes.
Think of the plan or strategy behind this recommendation like medication. The right dose at the right time makes all the difference. Too little doesn’t create change, while too much overwhelms.
Within a month, Jane felt noticeable changes. Her neck pain eased, her shoulders relaxed, and she returned to her high-intensity workouts without hesitation. That was just scratching the surface though.
Three months later, Jane’s transformation was undeniable. Her anxiety was gone, her energy soared, and she was sleeping soundly. Even better, she “no longer felt like a burden to her partner.” Her follow-up INSiGHT scans (one shown below) confirmed what she already knew her nervous system was thriving.

Jane’s story is a common example of how when we stop addressing the deeper cause, we see the miraculous healing capability of the body. Often, a “small” issue like neck pain points to something much deeper. While many of the people we see look fit and healthy on the outside, there’s often much deeper levels of dysfunction going on underneath the surface.
