If pickleball is your game, there’s good news for you.
On March 1, RacFit, a 22,000-square foot fitness and social club hosting six outdoor and two indoor tennis courts, along with eight pickleball courts – not to mention a full bar, on-site services, locker rooms and fitness rooms – will open at 1390 Robert South Light Boulevard in Buda.
The venue is about a 30-minute drive south (roughly 18 miles) from downtown Austin and has been a little over a year in the making. Four pickleball courts will be covered, while another four will be completely outdoors. The exterior of the facility will also feature walking trails.
The new venue continues amid a boom of pickleball interest in the Austin metropolitan area and Central Texas. In 2023, the Austin Pickle Ranch opened officially, while a host of bars and restaurants have begun to build courts to satisfy the needs of players and general interest fans.
However, there are also signs of downturn.
Just four years after opening in 2021, Dreamland, an expansive venue in Dripping Springs offering 16 pickleball courts, closed abruptly in 2024.
RacFit, however, seems to be gettng in at the right time. Interest remains sky-high. The social club, shaped by a five-person management team led by General Manager Grant Chambers, is currently selling “founders membership” packages and says it’s almost “95%” are sold.
The club will feature a pickleball experience director and a head pickleball pro, along with traditional racquet sports development programs.
