Ready, Set, Rappel!

By Press Release – October 25, 2012

Unleash your inner superhero by rappelling down the 17-story Hyatt Regency Austin Hotel on Town Lake on Saturday, October 27, to raise funds for Special Olympics Texas.

Brave Texans have the opportunity to raise enough money to rappel off buildings in three or four Texas cities in a four-week period. The event kicks off in Austin on October 27 and then moves on to the historic Milam Building in downtown San Antonio on November 3. Over the Edge then heads to the 15-story Oak Cliff Tower on IH-35 in Dallas on November 10 and ends at the 18-story Embassy Suites Hotel in downtown Houston on November 17.  Corporate and media sponsorships are available (for more information, contact Melissa Matherne, mmatherne@sotx.org, at 512.491.2927).

The first brave supporter at the Austin event on Saturday will be handed the rope to rappel at 9:00 a.m. Participants, including celebrity rappellers such as Special Olympics Texas athletes, will be going over the edge throughout the entire day.

Participants should be 18 years or older by the day of the event and weigh between 110 to 300 pounds. No previous rappelling experience is required. Each participant agrees to raise a minimum of $1,000.

Every friend, family, or co-worker donating $50 to help send participants Over the Edge will be entered for a chance to win two roundtrip BusinessFirst tickets on United Airlines (valued at $6,500 each).  To learn more or to register, visit www.sotx.org/overtheedge.
