The Austin Rowing Club is hosting its row-a-thon for FIT, Food in Tummies, again this year. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, Austin rowers challenge themselves to complete from 100 to 200k on a rowing machine, which will take a minimum of ten hours.
Participants ask people to match the number of kilometers they row with a donation to FIT. Say someone pledged $.25 for every kilometer and the rower completed 100k, then FIT gets $25.00.
Last year, the team of 35 rowed the equivalent of travelling from New York to Los Angeles and raised almost $10,000. Their goal this year is $25,000.
