As part of her “Let’s Move” health and fitness campaign, Michelle Obama took to the South Lawn this week to announce new physical fitness opportunities for military families.

Among the benefits are free memberships to the International Health, Racquet and Sports Club Association for immediate family members of actively deployed National Guard and Reserve members. Also, the American Council on Exercise has agreed to provide at least 1 million hours of free personal training and fitness instruction.

And it wasn’t just a hollow announcement– the First Lady of fitness leads by example. While there, Obama invited the 80 children to ‘get going’ with her and other standout athletes (like Michelle Kwan and Grant Hill) at fitness stations around the lawn. Activities included dancing, hula hooping and running.

Obama made sure to emphasize that fitness “isn’t about physical prowess,” and that we have to go from “sitting to standing to walking to moving.”

She encouraged military families to visit the Let’s Move website to learn about the initiatives. Even if you don’t have a military affiliation, take a look at the website to find out what the First Lady is doing to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic.
