We invite you to participate in an immersive VR experience from the mind of filmmaker Cyrus Sutton. Co-written by Cyrus and astrophysicist Jon Swift, "I Am This" combines composited nature footage and practical effects to bring patterns in the universe into sharp relief. The music was composed by Mileece I’Anson who harnessed electrical currents from plants to create an ethereal soundscape. Instead of using CGI, everything in the film was made by combining naturally captured elements. Nebulas were re-created using inks, lighting bolts and water were simulated by slicing and running electricity through wood.

Projected on an 18ft dome, “I Am This” envelops the viewer in a 360-degree universe of stunning visuals and animations. Cyrus will be taking this extended 20 minute version of this film on tour to Austin, NYC, LA and Burning Man in 2019, with Austin being the premiere of this experiential event.

“I’ve always been fascinated by natural patterns and the commonality between everything from galaxies to atoms. Humans are pattern readers, we look for familiar shapes to create meaning out of the world around us. Through a series of spiritual experiences over the years I was able to briefly see what seemed like the connections that physicists and mathematicians describe. I’ve always wanted to share these feelings through film and this is my first attempt. I am fortunate to have had the help of talented friends to help bring this to life” - Director Cyrus Sutton

This film was made possible with the support of Guayakí Yerba Mate. A founding B-Corp whose mission is to steward and restore 200,000 acres of South American rainforest and create over 1,000 living wage jobs by 2020.

More About Cyrus Sutton
I believe in creating films which promote curiosity and ecological literacy. I've been directing documentary films for sixteen years since my award-winning surf film Riding Waves in 2003. I won a Southwest regional EMMY when I was 23 and have directed hundreds of short films since.

More About Mileece I'Anson
Mileece is a pioneer in specialized generative music, gestural interfaces and plant biofeedback. She has toured an array of prestigious museums, festivals and venues with her hand-coded ‘aesthetic sonification’ system, interactive sculptures, hand crafted instruments, live and composed music and field recordings as immersive installations and performances. Her message of ‘promoting ecology through technology and the arts’ has reached over 10 million people through prime-time features, campaigns, documentaries and presentations ( e.g. ‘Grow Something Greater” campaign, ‘Sonic Garden’ at Sonos Studios installation, VICE motherboard episode). As a composer and recording artist, her debut work ‘Formations’ was internationally critically acclaimed, heralded by the BBC as an “outstanding release, real musical science”.
