Advice from the FITTEST

With less than two months before the AFM FITTEST on May 31-June 1, you’re either just beginning to get serious about your training or gathering the strength to continue. Two months may not seem like a long time but if you’re training every day, it can seem like forever.

Here’s some advice from a few of our AFM FITTEST free workout series instructors on how to break up the monotony of your fitness while keeping motivated and energized until the event.

Amid Archibald, Castle Hill Fitness (Workout #5)

“Fitness is a mind and body connection; it all starts with your mind. Keep your thoughts positive when it comes to your body, and the body will do what you want it to do. The body doesn't react to negative thoughts—it will fail you. Motivation comes only from you! Internal strength garners external gentleness. Additionally, for a healthy, happy body, eat clean and sleep deep; set high goals by writing out your workouts, and always finish it, even when you don't feel like it or if it's hard. It's all about not quitting—winners never quit!”

Megan Parsons, CrossFit Central (Workout #2)

"Find a workout partner and make it fun! I approach all my workouts with the attitude that I am blessed to be able to move freely and I have fun with it— regardless of how challenging the workout is that day. Having a partner in crime to attack your workouts with is key to this, and holds you accountable."

Trevor Hussey, Dane’s Body Shop (Workout #1)

“Without getting too deep into the science of it, dropping refined sugar intake is the simplest, least expensive way to improve endurance in your workouts and everyday life. There are many schools of thought and diets that try to apply a “one size fits all” approach to nutrition, but if there was one piece of advice we in the health and wellness community could agree on, it would have to be to remove processed or refined sugars.”

Stephanie Flores (Body by Frame) will be the instructor for AFM’s next free workout on April 6 at lululemon athletica in the Domain. For more information on this and future AFM FITTEST workouts, visit austinfitmagazine.com or connect through Facebook .
