The 44th annual Statesman Capitol 10,000 has something brewing for its 2021 registrants:  training routes that start and finish at neighborhood coffee houses.

“We’re so pleased to offer this special blend of fitness and local business to our Cap10K community,” says Cap10K Race Director Jeff Simecek. “Because live races are on hold for now, we wanted to give our runners both an opportunity to keep running and a unique way to warm up for our race on April 11, 2021.”

Since October, the Cap10K has unveiled a new 6.2-mile training route and coffee house every two weeks. The tour continues through December and covers areas across Central Texas: Circle C Ranch, Menchaca Road, East MLK Boulevard, Pflugerville, Leander, Buda and Lake Austin Boulevard.

Participants are encouraged to practice social distancing when running each route. Masks are also required to enter the tour coffee houses.

Once inside, participants can enjoy a drink discount by presenting their training bib when ordering. (Discounts vary by location and are subject to additional terms and conditions.)

While participants can train for free, in order to receive a coffee house discount, they must purchase a training bib number ($10). Also available to participants: a bib number and Cap10K comfort mask ($20); a bib number and exclusive training T-shirt ($25); and a bib number, mask and T-shirt ($35).

“This is not a race,” said Simecek. “We want our participants to have fun while getting fit! We hope they will share their training achievements with us and the rest of the Cap10K community on social media.”
