Snow Pea Chinese Restaurant
by Missy Lay |
Tucked
away behind the bustle of 35th Street, holds the delightful
family-run Snow Pea Chinese restaurant. But don’t
let the name fool you — this establishment provides
much more than a delicious Chinese meal. The bountiful Oriental
cuisine encompasses Korean and Japanese dishes as well as
sushi.
The owners pride themselves on their garlic
sauce, and we have to say it’s the tastiest we’ve
tried in town. We were also very impressed that all of the
chicken, beef and seafood dishes we sampled were accompanied
by a plethora of vegetables, with more health-conscious
diners in mind. For instance, the garlic chicken came with
amazingly crisp snow peas and the spicy jalapeño
chicken was surrounded by enough mushrooms for an adequate
side dish. All of Snow Pea’s vegetables are garden-fresh
daily — not kept in a back room inventory —
and we could tell just from their refreshing taste. In addition,
the egg rolls were uniquely light-tasting, missing the usual
greasy residue that comes from the frying process.
While the food is the main reason to go,
enjoying your meal in a pleasant atmosphere is just another
perk. When owner Suk purchased the restaurant she made sure
to pay close attention to the ambiance, employing a Feng
Shui Master to create natural elements in the dining area.
Fountains bring growth and prosperity and the red floor
and chairs create appetite and proper digestion.
Whether you’re looking for an appetizing
dinner or lunch, Snow Pea provides a delicious, affordable
and satisfying option. It is located at 3706 Jefferson Street,
with hours of operation Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to
2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday
12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
