RACE FOR THE
CURE
This year, more than 203,000 women will be diagnosed with
breast cancer, and at least 13,000 of them will be in
Texas. The Komen Foundation is working to reduce those
numbers locally and globally as well as make a real difference
in the lives of the women behind the statistics. One way
to help is to participate in the fun run on Nov. 7 at
8 a.m. at Auditorium Shores. Up to 75 percent of the net
income from the Komen Austin Race for the Cure and other
fund-raising activities remain in the community to fund
breast cancer education and screening programs in Bastrop,
Caldwell, Hays, Travis and Williamson counties. For more
information about this year’s event, call 473.0900
or visit www.komenaustin.org.
TOUGHEST RACE
IN TEXAS
Quick turns, narrow paths, steep limestone slopes (and
the occasional scurrying armadillo) make The Toughest
Race in Texas courses on Nov. 14 as challenging as they
are beautiful. There are no congested city streets or
exhaust fumes, as each course, consisting of a 10K, 5K
and one mile, is completely contained within St. Stephen’s
400-acre property between Capital of Texas Highway and
Lake Austin. This offers a classic Hill Country panorama
with vast oak forests and cedar bluffs interspersed with
native grass and cactus meadows. It’s the perfect
setting for an unforgettable run. The trail run begins
at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School at 8 a.m. For
more information, call 328.5815 or visit www.active.com
for event details.
MOTIVE BISON
STAMPEDE
The 5th annual running of the Motive Bison Stampede half
marathon and 5K Fun Run, will be held on Nov. 21. The
event has 100 percent of its proceeds going directly to
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). Thanks to the
participation of runners in past years, this race has
been able to raise $350,000 for LLS. Join in continuing
this annual Austin tradition of fun, fitness and philanthropy.
The race begins at 7:30 a.m. at 12515 Research Blvd (Motive
Headquarters). For more information, call 531.1120 or
visit www.stampede.motive.com.
