IBM UPTOWN CLASSIC
The IBM Uptown Classic, taking place on Oct. 3, offers a unique challenge to its runners this year. The race committee is offering a cash bonus of $1,000 to the first man and woman who break the Austin City 10K record. The record for men is set at 29:11 and the time to beat for women is 33:43. In addition, this year’s 5K is an un-timed fun run/walk and the kids’ half mile is also a fun run. MUDDY BUDDY RACE & RUN SERIES
Also taking place on Sunday, Oct. 3, is the Muddy Buddy Race & Run, a unique trail running and mountain biking adventure race near Johnson City. It begins at Flat Creek Crossing Ranch on County Road 201 at Ulrich and features a six- to seven-mile course with a variety of obstacles, including a mud pit to wade across to the finish line. PERVASIVE POWER CHARGE
Compete or enjoy walking the scenic and challenging course loops through the streets of Northwest Austin during the Pervasive Power Charge. Held on Sunday, Oct. 24, this race is the third one held in the Distance Challenge, including a timed 10-mile run and 1-mile fun run, with walkers welcome to either event. Awards will be given to the top five runners in every age category and prize drawings will be held as well. The proceeds of the event will benefit the Girl Scouts Lone Star Council, promoting health and fitness for future leaders. CREDIT UNION TEXAS TWISTER 10K RUN
Deck out in your favorite Halloween costume on Oct. 30 for the first Texas Twister 10K, benefiting the Children’s Miracle Network and children’s hospitals across the nation. Although costumes are optional, why not get in the Halloween spirit? The 10K run/walk starts and finishes at Waterloo Park.
