Area Runs & Races

Darnd’st Du in Texas
The Darnd’st Du is a 30K bike ride and a 5K run through the countryside of San Marcos taking place on August 15 at 8 a.m. The race starts and finishes in the Tanger Outlet Mall property at Centerpoint Road and Interstate Highway 35. The event benefits C.A.S.A. of Central Texas, Inc., an organization that recruits, trains and supports community volunteers to aid abused and neglected children in the court system. For more information, call 569-0165 or visit www.darndstdu.com.

The Couples Triathlon
The Couples Triathlon, starting at 7:15 a.m. on August 21, is going to be a competitive and fun multisport event. All you need to do is find a partner (whether it be a friend, spouse or family member), combine your ages and sign up your team in the appropriate category. Each person on the team competes in the triathlon, however combined times make up the overall results. The venue will provide a unique swim course, a bike route through gentle, rolling hills and a smooth, off-road run that will take you around the entire Texas Sky Ranch property. In the event of nasty weather couples will still hit the pavement! For more information, call 797-7581 or visit www.uphillproductions.com. To register, visit www.signmeupsports.com/28027.

Deep Eddy Mile
The Deep Eddy Mile is a single event meet on August 28 at 9 a.m. Swimmers will race a “Deep Eddy Mile” equal to 1,766 and 2/3 yards. Awards will be presented based on age groups and any Deep Eddy Pool record will be posted. For more information, call 327-2260 or visit www.adultswimming.com.

Keep Austin Weird 5K
The second annual Keep Austin Weird 5K, to benefit one of Austin’s most unique institutions, Barton Springs Pool, will be held on August 28 at 5 p.m. This year’s event promises to be bigger, better and weirder than ever before. Make your plans to celebrate all that keeps Austin such a truly unique city. Some events to look forward to this year are: the first annual Keep Austin Weird Disc Golf Tournament by Moody Disc Golf, a free concert featuring Bob Schneider from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and two kid-friendly bands playing from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. There also will be a moon bounce, a rock wall provided by Austin Rock Gym, a coloring contest, custom creation from Austin Goodwill and a crowning of Austin’s Weirdest Person. A Kids’ K will start at 4:30 p.m. at Auditorium Shores, while the 5K run through downtown will begin at 5 p.m. This is the perfect event for the whole family that should not be missed.
