Velocity day: hill Climbing 101
This course features a warm-up. long aerobic distances, short anaerobic power hills and just enough recovery after each to keep you going. The ride will be held June 5 at 8 a.m. and participants will focus on climbing technique, form and mental solutions. Meet at the the U.S. Post Office parking lot at the southeast corner of Far West Boulevard. For more information, call Stanton at 478-5221.

Fredericksburg Revisited
Enjoy a joint ride with the San Antonio Wheelmen for some of the best cycling in the nation on June 6 at 9:30 a.m. This is what living and riding in Central Texas is all about. Choose from distances of 35, 45 and 60 miles. (Longer and shorter options can be arranged.) Meet at Fredericksburg High School on State Highway 16 at Highway Street, south of Main Street, and please allow about two hours for drive time. Plan to stay for lunch afterwards. South AUSTIN Safari
Experience the exotic flora and fauna of south Austin on this major revision of the ancient “Best of South Austin” ride taking place June 6 at 8 a.m. The ride lengths will vary between 17, 24, 38 and 58 miles, and will cover flat to moderately hilly terrain from Driftwood to east of Interstate Highway 35. Meet at Williams Elementary School, located one block east of South First Street and six blocks south of William Cannon Drive. For more information, call Daniel at 891-8539.

Lockhart B.B.Q. Run
This ride, formerly known as the Lockhart Kolache ride, has a new name, but the course remains the same. Meet at the courthouse square in Lockhart, one block west of Highway 183 on June 12 at 8 a.m. The 29-mile, 54-mile or combination loop will pass through scenic, oak-covered, rolling hills. The Lockhart B.B.Q. run is suitable for riders of all levels with a B.B.Q. lunch served afterwards. For more information, call Mick at 418-9825.

Breaking away
Head to the Alamo Drafthouse on June 12 for a 3:55 p.m. screening of the classic film “Breaking Away.” All proceeds will benefit a great cause, the Lance Armstrong Foundation. In addition to the film showing, there will be stationary bike time trials, raffle drawings, clips from previous tours, a silent auction and more. New sweden shuffle
Tour the New Sweden flatlands northeast of Austin on June 13 at 8 a.m. Riders can choose from shuffles of 20, 44 and 59 miles. The ride begins at Dessau Middle School on Dessau Road between Parmer and Howard lanes. For more information, call Michelle at 310-0096.
