FALL MARATHON TRAINING
Are you looking to improve your time as a marathon runner or possibly qualify for the Boston Marathon in 2005? Run-Tex University has created a training program just for you. Beginning in June, all intermediate and advanced runners looking to challenge themselves are invited to train on a great course. Attend an informational session on June 1 at 422 Riverside Drive. The program will meet at Run-Tex Riverside at 7 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, and 6 a.m. or 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. Registration fees are $125 for the program. Warm up for an upcoming race or test those 5K legs by participating in the News 8K on June 5 at 8 a.m. This 8K is the only one of its kind in Central Texas. All proceeds will benefit the Capital Area Food Bank and contributions can be made in the form of non-perishable food items and donations on-site and/or at packet pick-up. The course begins at Eighth Street and Congress Avenue in downtown Austin. Packet pick-up will take place at Run-Tex Riverside (located at 422 Riverside Drive) and on the race day at 7 a.m. Registration fees are $20. Runners will be cheered on by the Austin Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.S.) and will enjoy live music at the water stations. Finally, the race will be broadcast live on News 8 Austin. danskin women’s triathlon 5K
Take part in one of the best and most famous triathlons in the country, the Danskin Women’s Triathlon, on June 13 at 7 a.m. Celebrating its 11th year, the race includes a half-mile swim, 12-mile bike ride and 5K run. The expo will take place June 12 at the Travis County Expo Center, located at 7311 Decker Lane, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Packets will be available for pick-up from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (for last names beginning with A through M) and 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. (for last names beginning with N through Z). All relay team members must attend the packet pick-up together. Bike check-in is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the race will begin at Walter E. Long Park. holland corn festival 5k
This festival celebrates the cash crop of the area and boasts entertainment for the whole family. From amusement rides to food and live music the Holland Corn Festival located in Holland, Texas will take place June 19 at 8 a.m. Participants will ride in a school bus to the starting line and the race will begin south of Holland, heading toward the city along the quiet countryside, with a scenic finish near the festival activities downtown. Expect a mostly flat course with a few modest hills. All proceeds will benefit the community of Holland in the form of scholarships and funding for nonprofit organizations.
