Lost pines
Meet at the courthouse square March 13 at 9 a.m. in Bastrop for rides of 29, 37 and 52 miles. These scenic and challenging rides course through the pine-carpeted red clay hills of Bastrop and Buescher State Parks. A new out-and-back option goes through Smithville to Kovar and back, so be ready to climb. For more information, contact Bob at 928-0859.
Leanderthal
Cruise through the stone-age landscapes of far west Travis County. Routes of 24 to 60 miles go through and around some of the scenic golden cheeked warbler and black capped vireo habitats. Meet at the Leander School warehouse parking lot on March 14 at 9 a.m. in Leander. Take Highway 183 North past Cedar Park. The cross-street at the stop light in Leander is Highway 2243 to the right, and South Street to the left. Turn left onto South Street and go two blocks. The parking lot will be on your left. C.A.P.S. (Castroville Area Pet Shelter) Charity river ride
Enjoy routes of 25, 40 and 65 miles plus a 7.5 mile family ride on March 27 in Castroville. The cost is $10 for children ages 15 and under, $20 for adults, and $30 for late registration. Rosedale Ride
Join the 10th Anniversary edition of the Rosedale Ride on Saturday, March 27. The ride is open to cyclists of all abilities and includes five course lengths, with 8-, 17-, 24-, 42- and 62- mile routes. The Rosedale Ride is an important fundraising event benefiting the Rosedale School of Austin. The school provides educational programming for A.I.S.D. students, ages 3 to 22, with significant medical, physical and cognitive disabilities. The ride begins at 8:30 a.m. at Samsung Blvd. Support the Rosedale School today and register early at www.rosedaleride.org or call 280-4799. Ride-day registration is also available from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
Camp for all hilltop ride
This ride will take place at Camp For All in Burton (Washington County near Brenham) on April 3 at 8 a.m. Choose from routes of 22, 44 and 66 miles. The cost is $50 until March 31 and then $60 up to the day of the race. Registration fees include a barbecue lunch, T-shirt and refreshments. Proceeds benefit Camp For All, the Kiwanis Club of Houston and the Houston Texans Foundation. The Hilltop Ride is a fully supported, recommended training ride of the BP MS 150, and will provide a stunning spring tour of Washington County, complete with bluebonnet-covered meadows and scenic vistas of Lake Somerville. Cruising through a metric century of rolling hills, cyclists will encounter more than 2,000 feet of elevation gains that will challenge the lungs and train the legs for the upcoming MS 150.
