Association Rides

Cotton Capers

Take a trip into rural Austin. This ride meets in northeast Austin on Jan. 4 at 9 a.m. Routes range from 29, 38 or 52 miles. Take Cameron Road north from Highway 183 and turn right on Cross Park Drive. The second left is Wall Street. Don’t miss this opportunity for a scenic ride that may even include seeing some beautiful cotton fields. For more information, contact Rick at 423-3562.

Bulldog Sandwich Ride
Meet on Jan. 10 at 9 a.m. on the side road off FM 153 opposite the entrance to Buescher State Park (but don’t block the park entrance) just north of Highway 71, near Smithville, for a 35- or 50-mile ride through rolling hills. There may not be a Bulldog Sandwich in Winchester, but there are definitely burgers at Rocky Hill Ranch, just up from the park. For more information, call Laura or Russell at 452-6453.

Dripping Springs Favorite
Take a new look at an old ride on Jan. 18 at 9 a.m. Riders will meet at the Dripping Springs Independent School District Administration Building on the north side of Highway 290, located at Loop 64. Follow Onion Creek on either a 17-, 30-, 45- or 58-mile ride. The route takes you across the Great Divide into the Blanco River Basin, offering one of the most spectacular cycling views anywhere. There are plenty of hills and open vistas along the way. For more information, contact Jill at 340-6295.

Old San Antonio Road
Take a tour through Buda, Kyle and the wooded Blanco River Valley to northern San Marcos on Jan. 25 at 9 a.m. Riders will meet at Williams Elementary School located at Mario and Blue Valley Drive (located one block east of South First Street and six blocks south of William Cannon). Each participant can select his or her own distance up to 55-mile rides. For more information, call Ralph at 326-9447.

Weir Lost
Choose between rides of 30 and 53 miles that take you through Jonah, Walburg and possibly Weir, if you don’t get lost, that is! Riders may opt for shorter rides as well. To be a part of this adventure, meet in Old Settlers Park in Round Rock at the girl’s softball field on Jan. 31 at 9 a.m. From Interstate Highway 35, exit 254 east, follow Route 3406 3.4 miles, cross CR 1460 (3406 becomes 113 Kyphen Road), go 2.3 more miles, then turn right on Auten Loop. Take the first right into the parking lot. For more information, contact Bob at 301-4776.

Fitzhugh Flog
This Feb. 1 ride will start at 9 a.m. at the HEB parking lot in the Village of Bee Caves at the corner of Highway 71 and F.M. 2244 (Bee Caves Road). Riders choose from routes of 31 to 51 miles. Enjoy a challenging hill featuring 2,400 feet of climbing followed by a fast finish. Discover a hidden part of the Texas Hill Country. The final 10 miles are generally downhill in medium to high-intensity traffic. For more information, call Jill at 340-6295.
