RUN-TEX ALL COMERS TRACK MEET
For some free fun, lace up your running shoes and come out for this Run-Tex-sponsored event June 11, to feature distances of 100 meters, 4x100 meters, 600 meters and 3000 meters, , as well as a distance medley.
The All Comers meet follows an earlier meet held by Austin Parks & Recreation, which ends at 8 p.m. The general public is welcome to join in for the all comers event. There is no admission, registration fee or time schedule; preregistration ends on race day. Run-Tex representatives will stay until all runners have finished, except in the case of severe weather. Children are welcome if the event schedule for the Parks & Rec meet doesn’t have the space for them. The schedule of events is subject to change. CHRIESMAN WATERMELON FESTIVAL 5K
Small-town charm and a good cause combine for this Chriesman Community Center-sponsored out-and-back course. On a relatively flat, paved, country course, this annual run/walk starts at 8 a.m., July 4. Then stay for the Watermelon Festival — with food, music, games and more — open to all. Proceeds will benefit the Chriesman Improvement League. Meet at the center, located at FM 1363 in Chriesman. Entry fees for both the run or walk are $15. NCLR DIABETES DASH 5K FUN RUN
This July 12 5K, hosted by the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), starts at 8 a.m. at the Austin Convention Center. In a time when obesity levels are at epidemic proportions and the number of Latinos suffering from diabetes rises, NCLR invites runners to come run in honor of families battling the disease. NCLR is a group established to reduce poverty and discrimination and improve the life opportunities for Hispanic Americans. Come help promote diabetes awareness and early detection through this activity, which serves as a critical component in preventing and reducing the rate and acceleration of diabetes. Participants receive a free commemorative T-shirt at Latino Expo USA and postrace refreshments. TOUGHEST 10K IN TEXAS & ONE-MILE RUN
Sponsored by the Lampasas County Chamber of Commerce on July 12, this 23rd annual run is nestled in the heart of the Hill Country. Meet at Hancock Park Pavilion in Lampasas at 8 a.m. Medals will go to the first three places in each age group, male and female, and T-shirts will be given to the first 250 entries. Adult entry fees are $15 per individual and $20 after July 8. The first annual Kiddie K portion is open to children ages 7 and younger.
