BAGELFEST 5K AND 1K
The Second Annual BagelFest 5K run/1K walk benefitting the Austin Jewish Community Day School scholarship fund and the canned food drive for the Capital Area Food Bank will be March 9 at the Austin Jewish Community Center, located at 7300 Hart Lane. Race-day registration and packet pick-up begins at 7 a.m., the 5K run/walk begins at 8 a.m. and the kids’ 1 mile begins at 8:45 a.m. Entry fees for the kids’ 1-mile race are $8 in advance or $10 on race day. SOUTHWEST KEY GO FOR THE GOLD 10K
Walk or run — just have fun — at the Southwest Key Go For the Gold 10K, beginning at 8 a.m. March 15 at the Plaza Saltillo, located at Fifth and Comal streets. This 10K features a unique, challenging, certified race route in East Austin including highlights such as Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Kealing Park and Pool, Boggy Creek Greenbelt, Huston-Tillotson College and the Fiesta Gardens on Town Lake, plus a special appearance by 10-time Olympic Champion Carl Lewis. Registration is $25 until the day of the race. Proceeds will benefit at-risk youth from Austin participating in the Key Olympics and Youth Leadership Conference at the University of Houston. SUNRISE STAMPEDE 5K FUN RUN
The Star of Texas Fair & Rodeo hosts its fourth annual Sunrise Stampede 5K fun run March 22 at the fairgrounds. Kids will have their chance to run in the second annual Rodeo Rumble at 10 a.m. around the Kiddie Carnival. The first three women and the first three men to cross the finish line will receive a custom trophy. Dress up to win awards for the “Most Outrageous Costume,” “Biggest Cowboy Hat,” “Best Running Boots” and “Best Rodeo Clown Makeup.” Register at Run-tex, located at 422 Riverside Drive, or online at www.staroftexas.org/FunRuns.
STATESMAN JUNIOR ’DILLO KIDS 1-MILE RUN
The Austin American-Statesman Junior ’Dillo Kids’ 1-Mile Run will begin at 8 a.m. March 29 at Auditorium Shores, located at West Riverside Drive and South First Street. Fees are $13.50 if you pick up the T-shirt and race packet at the race expo and $16.50 if you would like them mailed to you. The run is a certified one-mile course for kids ages 12 and under. All participants receive a commemorative award and the top three in each age group receive a custom medal. Parents are welcome to participate with their children. STATESMAN CAPITOL 10,000
The Austin American-Statesman Capitol 10K coming March 30 is Texas’ largest 10K and an annual rite of spring for the Austin community. In its 26th year, the Capitol 10K attracts the silly to the serious and has become a fun, festive tradition for the whole family. Runners come decked out in creative costumes; walkers come out to have fun with family and friends; and timed runners get a fast-race course. Fees are $21.50 for the run/walk and $22.50 for the chip-timed competitive run if you pick up your race packet at the runners’ expo, or an additional $4 if you would like it mailed to you.
