These fall leagues don’t promise relief from heat exhaustion but can surely offer fun, competition and team involvement. The city’s indoor and outdoor sports activities are a great way to stay active and meet others. From weekdays to weekends, this list of organizations provides sports opportunities for both kids and adults looking to play group sports.
Austin parks and recreation
The Parks and Rec’s athletics section caters to Austin’s adults, providing year-round recreational and competitive sports leagues.
Softball
Men’s, women’s and corecreational adult softball teams offer both recreational or competitive leagues, which play Sunday through Friday nights at the Krieg and Havins softball complexes. League teams are sanctioned with the Amateur Softball Association, but players have the opportunity to register, compete and advance with other national organizations. The fall league lasts six weeks and begins Oct. 5. Registration will be held Aug. 28 through Sept. 2 and mail-in team registration is required.
Men’s basketball
Leagues play eight games over 10 weeks, starting the second week of September. Due to limited space for the basketball league, a lottery will be held at Fiesta Gardens at 6:30 p.m. August 20 to determine inclusion. The cost per team is $335. Games are played Mondays through Thursdays.
Flag football
Coed and men’s flag football teams start playing the second week of September with walk-in registration available from Aug. 12 to Aug. 15. Teams play for 10 weeks with eight games. The cost per team is $375. Games are scheduled Mondays through Thursdays.
