Surf and Chill: Austin's Newest Brewery is Swell
Nland isn't just making waves on water, but also on land. The Nland Brewing Company and tasting room is officially open.
First, you got to work up an appetite by catching about 28 waves during the hour-long surf session. A few other Austin media members, FitCity's Pam LeBlanc and Austin Beer Guide, and I had a blast surfing together. The Nland Surf instructors were awesome, as always. They coached us to do our best which helped me have the most successful session to date--I only missed 3 waves!
Pam LeBlanc - Austin American-Statesman
That hour session left us feeling like we certainly earned our beer flight so we walked over toward Nland Brewing Company while talking to ourselves on how we couldn't turn one way or the other, how long of a ride we had or how big that wipeout was. My mouth dropped as we approached the beautiful patio that overlooks the water. It's quite possibly the best setting in Austin to sip a beer (with chips and guac from Blue Prairie). The restaurant is right next door and can bring you food (try the poke bowl!). Even if you don't surf, it was relaxing to watch surfers catch waves at the open-air brewery.
My beer flight: IPA, Pale, Peach, Fun
I was most skeptical of the Peach Party Wheat, but like all the beers, it was subtle and complex, cared for and made by head brewer Todd Henry. I'm not a beer connoisseur, but I think anyone that walks up will find a beer they'll enjoy. Scroll down to see their full selection and a continuation of the Highway 71 brewery tour!
