Rodeo Austin: Fun for the Whole Family
While it is known among the rodeo and western worlds as one of America’s top five Pro-Rodeos with professional rodeo athletes competing for the championship title, Rodeo Austin is also one of Austin’s hottest, must attend events as two worlds collide for the perfect amount of weird and western. Though founded in 1938, Rodeo Austin has evolved over time managing to keep up with the Austin trends and quirks setting it apart from other fairs and rodeos around the nation. The two week long event will feature nearly 100 live bands, some of the area’s hottest food trucks, tons of kid-friendly fun and for the first time, a craft beer garden.
The main stage will feature artists ranging from Bobby Bones & the Raging Idiots and Elle King to Cody Johnson and Kevin Fowler. However, that is only a portion of the excitement expected to be seen at this year’s Rodeo Austin! For the first time, Rodeo Austin will be working with Revolver Brewing out of Granbury, Texas to create a Craft Beer Garden on the fairgrounds, conveniently located near the outdoor stage for the live music enthusiast’s pleasure. Keeping with the natural Austin vibe, Rodeo Austin will also have local food trucks like Mighty Cone, Wagyu on Wheels, Gebby’s BBQ, Trudy’s and other local vendors that will be sure to appeal to any foodie’s appetite, paired with the traditional carnival fried favorites as well.
But that’s not all! In addition to your music and local food scenes, Rodeo Austin embraces the weird of its home city with specialty acts including pig races, a petting zoo, pony rides, world renown trick roper, Tomas Garcilazo, and Team Ghost Riders, the monkeys riding dogs duo. With all of the events, sights and entertainment Rodeo Austin brings to the table, it’s safe to say they truly encompass the Austin weird while implementing the perfect amount of western flare making it a fun affair for the whole family.
Over the two week span of the event, there will be promotions such as spring break carnival deals, Rodeo Austin’s version of ‘$2 TUESDAY’ March 21st featuring TWO for one rodeo tickets, TWO dollar fairground admissions and TWO dollar carnival rides. This year there will also be a Military and First Responders day in honor of Rodeo Austin’s partnership with the United States Navy during Austin Navy Week.
While there is tons of fun to be had and sights to be seen, Rodeo Austin does it all in the name of giving back. As one of Austin’s largest charities, Rodeo Austin supports over 2,000 students through the scholarship program. Since the inception of the program in 1981, the organization has awarded more than $7.5 million in college scholarships.
The fair and rodeo runs March 11th-25th with a daily rodeo performance and main stage concert starting at 7:00 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 3:00 p.m. on Sundays. Fairgrounds open to the public at 10 a.m. every day.
