A true culinary treasure and one of the most iconic restaurants in town, Z’Tejas is reaching a major milestone this month, with a memorable celebration you won’t want to miss.

Turning a remarkable 20 years old on September 13th, Z’Tejas already has its birthday party in the works. First, there will be buffet of delicious, locally-inspired food which has made the restaruant famous, including many of the Z’Tejas signature dishes and drinks Austinites have grown to love. Live music will be performed by Ray Benson and his band Asleep at the Wheel (Benson will be receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association in Sept. as well). Plus, guests will have a chance to give back to one of Austin’s most beloved charities, the Lance Armstrong Foundation. A silent auction will feature a VIP trip to Mexico to tour the authentic tequila distillery Casa Herradura, an array of commemorative wines, a signed Sammy Hagar guitar, Livestrong Silver Oak wine, Livestrong gear and autographed items from Austin natives Lance Armstrong, seven-time Tour de France winner, and Drew Brees, quarterback of the New Orleans Saints.

“After 20 years of serving fresh, flavorful and innovative drinks and cuisine, we are very proud of the accomplishment and want to celebrate with all our friends in Austin,” says founding chef and host of the 20th anniversary party Jack Gilmore.

Believe it or not, the idea for the Lance Armstrong Foundation first originated at the Z’Tejas Sixth Street location in 1996. Over dinner, Lance Armstrong and four of his buddies came up with the common goal to unite people battling cancer. In just a little more than a decade, that dream has evolved into one of the largest and most impactful cancer charities in the world.

Meanwhile Z’Tejas has evolved into one of the most popular lunch and dinner spots in town, known for food that’s as eclectic and innovative as its menus’ creator, Gilmore.

“These 20 years have been a ton of fun,” he says. “It all started one day with a vision to run a great neighborhood restaurant serving delicious food and margaritas, and now it’s become a local favorite.
