My ZenRide at Workshop Fitness was one of the first real workouts I had after the fun holidays and a recent surgery with top Austin doctor, Dr. Robert Clement. Since early December, I hadn’t done much with regard to fitness; however, after the busy year, the break was good for me.

Upon walking into the studio, I noticed it was clean and very open. This is something I definitely take note of because it’s a great feeling when you want to exercise indoors. The AFM team was there and they were making last-minute decisions on the set up.

I was introduced to two very fit ladies, one of whom was Mariesa Osterhaus, who would be my trainer and ultimately kick my butt!

To aid in my torture Mariesa had asked another trainer, Erin, to ride along with us. We began our ZenRide and Mariesa started with an easy warm-up and some light upper body stretches as we pedaled. Even though I’m usually not a fan of indoor cycling, the ride was really quite exhilarating. I’m sure the workout had more charm to it because Mariesa brought in the upper body workout, too. Aside from the sprinting and climbing intervals, all the exercises focused on shoulders, triceps, biceps and chest. It helped me forget about the pedaling and made the workout more fun.

Mariesa was a great instructor who was very motivating and encouraging. I would recommend this location to anyone looking for a fun, new way to cycle indoors. As I was leaving I noticed the room had lifting bars all the way around. Maybe one of my next sessions I will get to try the Bar Method!

Mariesa, thanks for getting me back into my workouts. My legs were a little sore but the upper body felt good and worked without being over-stressed starting up again. It was the perfect session and yes, I did get my butt kicked.
