Central Texas Rhythm Overtake Texas Wranglers

The Texas Wranglers hosted the Central Texas Rhythm on January 11 at the Covenant School in Conroe, Tex.
The Rhythm drew first blood, attacking the Wranglers and taking an 11 to 4 lead during the first quarter. The Rhythm posted one of the best defensive quarters of this season, only allowing the Wranglers 13 points. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 19-13.
The Rhythm erupted for a 38-point second quarter led by Ryan Holmes, who scored 11 of his 14 points for the game. The Rhythm maintained a comfortable lead going into half time, 57-41.
Pat Perkins and Curtis Jones, Jr., continued the onslaught in the third quarter, with help from Demetrius Smith. The Wranglers made a strong comeback, cutting the lead from 20 down to 7, but were not able get any closer. Following three quarters of play, the score was 86-78.
In the fourth quarter, the Wranglers continued to fight as the Rhythm shooting cooled off. It was the Rhythm’s strong defense that held the Wranglers at bay, with the score tied 109-109 with 26.2 seconds remaining. The Wranglers called a time-out, and the Rhythm took another time-out immediately after. The Rhythm held the ball for the one shot with a two-second game clock and shot clock differential . Tre Nichols drove to the basket and was called for an offensive foul with 2.36 seconds remaining in regulation. The Wranglers inbounded the ball to C.J. Carter, who was able to get a shot off, but it would not go in, sending the game into overtime.
The overtime period belonged to the Rhythm, outscoring the Wranglers 11-4. Tre Nichols scored 6 of the 11 Rhythm points in OT.
